About This Project

This is a Marvel Encyclopedia of characters and comics. Soon to be searchable by Creators and Series. I wanted to create a Marvel Encyclopedia of the characters in the Marvel Universe using the MarvelAPI. The MarvelAPI only endpoints for the characters is limited, only showing the image, short description, and id of the characters. So I added another level to the app, using the MarvelAPI, I grabbed the wiki url for each character that contained a wiki url, and used SwiftySoup to parse all the info off the wiki and used those details to update the UI in the zpedia app. Now it contains the complete Marvel characters info in a dynamic UI. Some characters don't have a wiki page, or even a detailed page, so I created another interface and ran some conditional loops in case they did not have a wiki page. The comics section also uses the MarvelAPI, and grabs the endpoints info to update the UI, and then you can also click a button and find the comic in the Marvel Store, where you can find a printed copy or download a digital version if available. As a lifelong avid Marvel fan, I wanted to create an app that was not only fun to use, but educational about the characters and comics. It's probably the app I had the most fun making, as I got to expand my framework knowledge, using frameworks I havent used before, and build a unique interactive UI for my data models.

THE IDEA

Create a simple UI/UX app that was encyclopedia to Marvel Universe using the MarvelAPI. An app using a unique UI that honors the Marvel Brand.

THE STATICS

Freshly uploaded, not too much to report, but I have gotten much positive feedback in pre-production/release. My hope is that it gets downloaded quite a bit and people appreciate the app and the work I put into making it as much as I am a fan of the Marvel Universe.
